Who is John Dillinger?

John Dillinger was a famous bank robber during the early 30s. He is said to have been very violent during the commission of his crimes. Like Bonnie and Clyde, John Dillinger is said to be responsible for the murder of several police officers. He is also credited with committing numerous successful bank robberies, in addition to successfully escaping from jail. Like Bonnie and Clyde, John Dillinger died in a hail of bullets in a public display. He was watching a film with his date, and a friend who was dressed in a bright red dress before he was gunned down.

It is claimed that the lady in red, gave his position away, simply by the color of her dress. It is unclear why he even returned to the city in which he committed one of his most famous crimes. In fact, most of Chicago was on the lookout for John Dillinger.

John Dillinger is said to have committed many of his robberies utilizing disguises. Apparently he was very convincing, as he gained access to several banks while pretending to be a salesman from an alarm system company. In addition, he sometimes pretended to be a scout that worked for movie companies. By pretending to look for a location for a film shoot, he often gained access to secure areas of the bank.

As a bank robber, it can be said the John Dillinger was rather successful. He is in fact, credited with robbing two dozen banks during his crime spree. However, in addition to being a bank robber, John Dillinger was also a murderer. He is believed to have killed several officers during the commission of his crimes, or when trying to escape. However, none of those specific accusations have ever been proven.

Yet, there is no doubt that he was a very successful bank robber, accumulating significant wealth after the completion of his crimes.

During the Great Depression, many famous bank robbers committed some elaborate and notorious bank robberies. In addition, many of them are credited with dozens of murders. In the end, many of those famous bank robbers died young, frequently at the hands of law enforcement. The very officers that they had eluded, eventually caught up with them.

For Dillinger, it should have been obvious that he should not return to Chicago. It has been claimed that he returned for love, even when he knew that he would never be allowed to leave the city. In any case, Dillinger and criminals like him, led to must stricter robbery laws. In fact, Bank robbery is now a Federal crime.
